Recently I asked readers how they would promote small buildings for better urban neighborhoods. Sam Newberg, aka Joe Urban, sent his "10 Principles for Little Infill" presentation, which includes eye-catching photos in addition to thoughtful principles:
- Go to the neighborhood first
- Work in cities with good codes and cooperation
- Do the market research
- Don’t over-retail
- Activate the public realm
- Be realistic about parking
- Retail entrances must be practical
- Background buildings are OK
- Find a lender with mixed-use experience
- Hire a marketing team with sensitivity to the local market
